Blue.
I know you.
Intimately.
Ours
Was my first
Long-term
Relationship.
With you,
I spent
Too many
Pacing late nights
and
Anxious, wee-hour mornings.
Blue.
Me and you
In the kitchen, stewing
On bent knees, pleading
On the interchange, scheming
Dreaming.
For years
You held court,
Torturously
Twisting the past,
Plaiting the present
and
Tainting my tomorrows.
Blue
I fought you.
With intellect, through sheer neglect
Using prayer and mantra
Swear and tantra
Battling long
And strong
Until finally, I knew
What to do
To vanquish you,
Blue.
~
It was so simple.
Add yellow.

My first long-term relationship.
Oh, Kim, I understand.
I love this poem. Not just because I relate to the subject matter but the way it’s presented.
I can’t help thinking that when you add yellow to blue, you get green.
Green=Life.
Green=New Growth.
And green is SO my favorite color!
I would have pegged you as a red person. :-) Passion.
Formal poetry often escapes me, but I could relate to this. Like V, I understand. I’m grateful that you fought and live to tell the stories.
There is a lot of red in my house…curtains, small appliances, ceilings…but green is who I am.
Yes, “gardener friend – a Master gardener – who shares their experiences with nature” to help the rest of us too, make good greens. :)
