Abandoned Quail Eggs2

Abandoned in  my mission garden, the nest of quail eggs lay protected for weeks beneath the lip of a cracked and overturned terracotta pot. Assuming they were sterile I let them be, knowing nature would handle the cleaning and drying process.

After a time, I gathered the speckled beauties and laid them atop my potting bench.

So beautiful!

The truth is, I could search far and wide, or dedicate hours of creative labor, yet never exceed the artistry that exists under my nose or beneath my feet.

Good Will = Loving Kindness = Chesed = Benevolence = Metta = The place where divinity dwells in our hearts.

One of the wonders of aging is learning to appreciate one’s own self on all levels, including the physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual. The perspective earned by decades of living provide both a clarity and an appreciation not yet gained in youth. So while I adored the experiences of my 20′s, 30′s and 40′s, these 50′s are bound to be even better. Can you imagine what lies beyond? Wow!

Many of the world’s greatest minds have counseled us to acccept and love ourselves more fully.

Consider the following:

Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence. Love others as well as you love yourself. ~ Jesus

If you must love your neighbor as yourself, it is at least as fair to love yourself as your neighbor. ~ Nicholas de Chamfort

You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection. ~ Buddha

When you are content to be simply yourself and don’t compare or compete, everybody will respect you. ~ Lao Tzu

Don’t forget to love yourself. ~ Soren Kierkegaard

Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is of you. ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Are you following their wise counsel? Tell me about it.
