Cicada days
Coyote nights
The desert’s a-hum and a-howl
Cool morning air
Kisses shoulders and cheeks
In the garden, watched over by owl
The watering’s done
Weeds are pulled, bounty picked
Just before intense heat’s begun
In the corner, near Buddha,
Mama quail sings to mate
Keeping track of their myriad young
Black racer waits – wise
Heat waves roll then rise
From the ground until dusk, cool, returns
In the meantime
Seek shade, drink water, evade
Intense Sol disheartens, scars, burns
At day’s end
Climb to roof, then watch the sun set
Painting pink, orange, purple o’er sky
As the colors wash down
Cool air soothes the brow
Keen awareness, truth one can’t deny
Paradise

You painted your world so vividly… :)
Is this a depiction of your locality? one can feel the intimate rooted longing and adoration of this place where nature must surely be adorned with myriad memories.kudos!
It is, Abin! I live in the Sonora Desert, in Tucson. It is a magical, extreme sort of place.
oh Kim…this is gorgeous…attentive to the beauty and bounty of a single day. LOVE IT!
Yes! So beautiful, both sunset and your poem. I especially love “cicada days, coyote nights” and the desert being a-howl. Beautiful, Kim!
Paradise! I’d sign up for that…so well done!
beautiful sun set ~ i love the colors and intensity of waiting for paradise view ~
It certainly is Paradise, looks like, Kim! Melodious insects and birds to start the day and the hues of colors at end of day. In between lots more to appreciate. Nice capture Ma’am!

I hope I gave you a sense of the wonder I experience every day in the Sonora Desert.
beautiful like a painting……some kind of meditative feeling…
I love how vivid the day was! What a lovely experience….I can see it! Visually stunning :D
I could even smell the desert in all its shades and climates of day and night, and I heard the vastness that surrounded the sounds and made them more vibrant. This was so evocative that I wanted to come to the desert, despite being one of those who cannot tolerate heat. Really, really nice work. Loved it.
I love how this poem scuttles along. It draws to a natural end like day to night, night to day. It doesn’t waffle, it doesn’t bore. Thanks for showing me your world.
You really did paint a picture of a day from dawn to dusk. Beautiful imagery. Would be way too hot for me though. I’m not a hot, hot, or cold, cold person. A nice mid 70′s suits me best LOL
The extremes in temperature take some getting used to, without a doubt.
Love the pics of the packrat on the sidebar Yes, very cute. A bit like a chinchilla?
Very much like a chinchilla!
A picture-poem well painted – but left me too hot for comfort as a result! *smiles*
There is something about this desert..warm and inviting at times, harsh and angry at others. Angry the last couple of days for sure…really, its hotter than…well, you know. Beautiful look at home, it is something to be in awe of. Loved it.
Makes me long for the desert, excellent painting with words!
A really beautiful poem, and I loved the way it danced along. But I was looking for your Celtic Quatrain. Did I come to the wrong place?
Just beautiful descriptive verse, Kim. I wanna be there.
Intensity and passion leap off the page to describe this paradise..I think you could find colour and wonder in many places..perhaps even in the grey rains here..but this place sounds like the right place..Jae
The Tucson desert climate is harsh and extreme; and it spawns an incredible beauty and energy.
Now that was just plain beautiful. Your words bring it all to life. I felt like I was following you thru the day. I loved ‘climbing up on the roof to watch the sunset.’ Lol! Thanks for bringing me along :-)
Beautiful, beautiful poem. AZ sunsets are pretty darn awesome. I’m thankful to get to see one tonight. :-)
so beautifully u have described the tuscon summer..
all was live.. i was able to picture it with your word :)
Kim, this is gorgeous!
A beautiful image, sitting on the roof, feeling the cooler breeze while watching the beauty of the day disappear into the sunset. Wonderful imagery here, Kim. :)
