Despite the yearning, ‘lone first night
Beyond the veil few mortals peer
Espying those who’ve passed, are dear
Ventured on through tunneled white light
‘Tis curse and blessing, curtain drawn
When just one glimpse might comfort, calm
But that same glimpse might prompt swan song
Those drawing breath must carry on
So venture forth when dawn does come
Embrace the day, do good, shed tears
Serve others, give, allay your fears
This tale of love is not yet done
This very much has the classic feel of this form–and some true and resonant words well stated. Love your photos, here and on the sidebar as well.
You have captured the form’s classic touch. I am so fond of this type of poetry, but have no gift to create it. This is beautiful!
I agree that this has such a classic feeling. I also really like the way this moves through grief and then shows the way forward in the last stanza. Very well-written!

I love this last stanza, Kim! Do good we have as yet to utilize our full potential. Wonderful take!

Beautifully done, terrific rhyme and meter. I love “This tale of love is not yet done.”
I like this wandering into 19th century style, and such a perfect poem for the photo.
This poem resonates with Tennyson’s mood of melancholy, but I found that the final stanza offered a ray of hope: the tale of love is not yet done.
Thank you for trying out this tricky form with us on Real Toads.
“Those drawing breath must carry on” …and then your final stanza with “This tale of love is not yet done.”
Perfect, Kim. I really like this.

You really deliver some important points about staying positive even through the loss and you do it so gracefully and beautifully. Well written, Kim!
