Infused with tones, hues
Serene, sublime, the path fools
Predator hides, waits

Within fresh green, gold
Hidden by nature, beauty, bold
He captures, sedates

Beyond garden’s edge
Shadowed and dewy, the ledge
Where remains her fate

Pay attention

Hydrangeas in Florence, Photo by Kim Nelson

Walking this path
With you
Has revealed
Full earthly joy

Our connection, the lath
Block, glue
Of a life
Hardship daren’t destroy

Challenges pass
We eschew
Falling victim
No blaming employ

Time moves fast
We two
Keep the deal
We adore, we enjoy

It is good.

I’ll climb up the ladder
Stainless and tall
With a bottle of wine in my hand

Then sit on the roof
In wonder and awe
Gazing out at the stark desert land

I’ll sip and I’ll ponder
The beauty beyond
Watch the deer and the bobcat glide by

I’ll listen intently
To nighthawks and owls
As the bats flit across twilight sky

Here in Sonora
Harsh, exquisite, bold
I’ll take it all in
On this journey towards old

Formed
of
 dissonance,
their lofty,
soft appearance
does deceive

For in the eyewall
past the core,
winds ~
fierce velocity
achieve

On occasion,
The well-grounded
get a sense
of the discord

But another’s forecast
cannot calm
storm brewing
untoward

I wondered about the challenges ~ social, emotional, physical ~ of living outside the norm, homeless, when I snapped this photo in late spring, 2011. This poem shares some of that silent pondering.

Wild hearts
beat brutal,
sentimental thoughts
aside

Cozying up
is futile
the aggressor has
his pride

Trusting predator
tolls death-knell
in this milieu
fierce and wide

Neither sullen,
angry,  grudging,
just survival
tacks applied

No emotion
