This week I took a line-drawing and sketching class. FUN! FUN! FUN!
If you have any interest, wander over to Alisa Burke’s site and check out the online classes this artist and teacher offers.

Before you do that, have a look at my sketchbook pages, where I don’t worry about what anyone thinks. I just practice, play and put images and ideas on paper.

This carved kitchen angel was my inspiration piece

I used a #2 pencil, a Bic disposable pencil and then a pen to sketch her

Next I sketched her with water-soluble ink, then dipped my finger in my iced tea to shade

I jotted reference notes about my pens, then dressed them up in watercolors

I looked out my window, sketched what I saw and added a color wash

I liked the colors so much, I decided to play with leaves from the Aphelandra  in my studio.
I took lots of creative liberties!

How Fun Was That?!!!

For kicks and giggles, I’ll leave you a photo I took at day’s end…

Who doesn’t love a Sharpie? ;-)

A  local field trip each week feeds my soul and beckons the muse. I visit construction sites, nurseries, gardens, parks, shops, hiking trails… locations less than a half-hour from home where I can spend thirty minutes or three hours taking in the scenery. I snap photos or draw quick sketches to serve as reminders of what impressed me and to inspire future projects.

This week, I spent the morning at Civano Nursery where stock and staff are geared up for spring and summer. Here are some highlights:

Tables were loaded with annual color options

Pottery abounded in every color of the rainbow

Fairy Gardens nestled in nooks and niches

Seating areas invited shoppers to stay a while

Desert adaptable plants begged to be purchased

Statuary seduced as well

Where do you go for inspiration?

How do you connect with the muse?
