Drenched, I awaken.
Heart pounds. Heat radiates.
Panicked. Not immune.

She has that unique quality.
You’ve seen it…
Up early in the morning; set to take on the world
Spring in her step, jiggle in her jog.
Fears nothing. Loves it all. Glides through the world, pure confidence.
How wondrous.

I took these photographs along the  Guadalmina River in Malaga, Spain in  late May, 2011

~ Ω ~

Walking heat-steamed river bank

My reverie does cease

The sight beneath the footbridge

Prompts immediate caprice

~

The plot devised in early morn

A plan for my free day

Seems frivolous, no consequence

When proper heed I pay

~

To life being lived around me

~

Just there, at muddy waterside

‘Midst nasty, trash-tossed realm

A lovely man, bare-chested, strong

Makes home in shade of elm

~

He launders weekly work clothes

On limbs hangs them to dry

He sweeps dirt, makes bed, tidies cart

While sheltered folks walk by

~

I wonder why

Him

Not me

~

Now

An altered reverie

Transfixed by the scene in the kitchen unfolding,

The child watched the father’s hand pummel the wall

Knuckles, now bleeding, rode waves of cruel shouting

The mother, loud too ~ wild-eyed ~ red-faced did bawl

“Get out of the kitchen! Now! Go to your room!

This is none of your business, damned child!”

So he ran and he hid

Bumped his head on the bed

As he slide underneath it, half-wild

With fear.

Does anyone hear?

LETTING GO

Cradling you in my arms

~ all six feet of you ~

Is easier than you’d think.

~

You,

This moment,

Are perfect.

~

It will be our last, this exchange,

Until we meet on a different plane.

~

Caught in the heroin snare,

You’ll leave this time, this place, this space.

And so I hold you here, now.

~

Cradling you in my arms

~ all six feet of you ~

Is easier than you’d think.

~

Letting go.

Letting go is hard.
