Art

Never underestimate
Acacia.
Redolence afloat on slightest breeze.
Beckoning to all of those awakened.
Reducing weak and mighty to their knees.

Never underestimate
Her Motive.
Attracting well-to-do like honey bees.
Undeterred by stinger, swarm or danger
Standing firm; calming, perfect frieze.

Never underestimate
Her Power.
Seeming fragile, aiming to appease.
Cloaked in gentle beauty, thorns aplenty.
Come, draw near, draws blood, and then disease.

Sweet, Sweet Acacia.

You’d be wise to avoid her.

My sketchbook is my practice pad. I draw, paint, write, take notes and refer back to those pages when I’m working on other projects. I also use the sketchbook as a springboard for my creativity. I discovered that drawing and painting jump-start writing engine. I access words more readily after playing with pen and ink, line and shadow, color and tone.

I don’t claim that these are masterpieces in any stage of the making. They inspire me. I hope they inspire you too. Art for its own sake is art, for, well, its own sake. But it’s for ours, too.

First, a peak into process:

The inspiration photo, taken in my wildflower garden. Seeds came from Renee's Garden Seeds.

The Quick Sketch Stage

Added a little watercolor and some details in pen

Cross-hatching, lines, a few words and some color-washing

A few more details and a messy, black border

And now… a little poem:

Dressed In Red

I shall stand in the field
And shout
I will not be overlooked!
I AM the reason, why-for, the about.
I AM the power, light you cannot turn out.
Watch me shine!
I AM
Divine
