Dark Side

Unraveling.
I AM but a remnant of myself
Tattered, left to jostle over rugged terrain.
You
Coward or Courageous?
Tore away
Took me by surprise.
Cut from the cloth of a solid family man
Abandonment seemed not to be your guise.
There were no lies, no harsh replies, no wandering eyes, other woman’s sighs.
Didn’t know, but now I do, sometimes love just dies.
Realize
I expected
One day
To be alone
When fragrant bouquets and Green Day’s
“Good Riddance”
Ushered one soul or the other to the heights.
But this was not in sight.
Nothing’s stitched up tight.
It’s not right.
I AM but a remnant of my self
Good thing I AM also one hell of a seamstress.

Grief stole
Her lily-white soul
Sweet as maple-syrup,
Sugar cane.

Doubt crept in
Led to carnal sin
Cloying, daring, needy
Broke, not sane.

Lost faith destroyed
Strength before employed.
Later she’s aware,
The switch, the flip.

Double-helix facts aside
She was certain God had died
Yes, abandoned her,
How could she now survive?

So she didn’t.

“If only it would never happen all over again…”

Standing bedside,
local ER,
certain this time the last,
finally,
unconditional love.

Learned.
Behaviors show the moment
not one’s soul.
Choice defines time/place
not the essence of one, whole.

Stubborn,
like others,
I failed to love freely
until one I loved dearly
sacrificed mortality
for me.

Can others not see?
Learn their lesson through me?
So it would never happen again?

For the IndieInk Writing Challenge this week, Leo challenged me with “If only it would never happen all over again..” and I challenged Jester Queen with “It is stored within your body. Find a way to work it out.”

Swallow it down
turn him ON
Bright!

Cast out the shadows
the dark, dank
Blight

Flip it
Switch it
Illuminate the night

I AM incandescent
Join my brilliance
Join my fight

Let’s consume the darkness
Absolve others
Eat, breathe light

Cast out demons, open hearts,
bask in warmth
For all the right

Reasons

Until     darkness
Comes     again
Hungry
