Indigo Spires

'Indigo Spires' Salvia

‘Indigo Spires’ Salvia

stout-stemmed and leaning east
indigo spires grace the garden
employing the wind, salvia twists
toward sun basking, post winter harden

hummers
bees
pay heed

Walking This Land

Treacherous Beauty

Walking this land is a treacherous endeavor
Barbs and bites strike out
And leave their mark

Sweet Acacia,
Cat-claw thorn adorned
Snags, grabs, breaks clean, digs deep in flesh

Diamondbacks hide near,
‘Neath purple muhly grass
Most often overlooked, but when not, death

Gila monsters lumber out,
Steer clear of gripping jaws
They bite on rare occasion, won’t let go

Spry jumping cholla,
Its cousin teddy bear
With spiny, break-’way segments covered in snow

They all leave their mark
Barbs and bites strike out
A treacherous endeavor, walking this land
And yet I do.

It Is Written ~ Vehicles of THE WORD

It Is Written ~ Vehicles of THE WORD

It is Written ~ Vehicles of THE WORD

it is written
on walls of stone, brick, clay
tablets
perhaps ten
commanding attention
consideration
of days when
equanimity, liberty, creativity
were shot/shut down
and voices
drowned
leaving only
walls of stone, brick, clay
tablets
perhaps ten
as vehicles
of The Word

*The inimitable Anna Montgomery prompted this post over at The Bar. Love it!

Snowed Last Night

Snowed Last Night

It snowed last night
On the land and people I love
A February gift
Delivered from above
This morning
Sun warms brick, bird, bones
Diamonds sparkle on tips of trees
Icy filagrees
Dance on shrubs and stones
This moment, time and place
Wrapped in fog-gauze, winter lace
Pleases
Me
Immensely
