strength

These days

Should you manage

To conjure ‘nough courage

To forbid what’s rightfully mine

You’d see

I’ve grown, matured

Overcome and endured

Blessed by love, education and time

So don’t make me brandish my weapons

Old foe

You will not survive

I’ve experienced miracles

Perhaps has everyone,

An angel or a demon (who knows)

Kept me from coming undone.

Entity burst into my plan

To skew the path, the route.

At first, I felt rebellious, mad

Then worked a round-about.

Granted with that little break,

Respite from flux and flow,

My empty cup again half-filled,

My courage-fire did glow

And my eyes could see

New lanes toward the goal.

Adamant about a life she knew she could create

She focused not on here, now, truth; began to fabricate

A storyline, connection-filled, that spoke of great success

A family tree, community, no violence, duress

She left behind the hardships, the people who’d mistreat

Forgot about the nay-sayers whose goal was her defeat

She moved across the country. She got a new address.

She changed her name, enrolled in school, vowed never to confess

The peculiar caste from which she rose

The brutal chapter, finally closed.
