Like a hot house specimen

She requires your full attention

If it wanders she will wither,  she will writhe

~

Like a hot house specimen

Demands,  too numerous to mention

If just one goes unmet,  she’ll not survive

~

Like a hot house specimen

Appearance is her function

If unnoticed,  those around her she’ll deprive

~

Like a hot house specimen

She’s exotic. She’s quixotic.

One thing’s sure,  you’ll never get away alive.

~

You’re in trouble now…

I have the freedom

To do whatever I please,

But I don’t always.

Because

I also have the freedom

To think things through;

And I would never opt

To hurt you,

So I contain myself.

Sometimes.

I wrote this poem after spending time in the garden. There, no creature envies another’s appearance or attributes. There, beauty abounds in every shape, size, color, form. There, we admire the diversity.

We, especially we women, can learn a lot in the garden. Every living thing is endowed with particular and unique beauty… you, me, she… We simply need to widen our vision, expand, accept, appreciate, relish.

I’m feeling especially divine.

That being said…

In my next life,

Next world,

I’m giving birth to six daughters:

Lily

Poppy

Rose

Iris

Daisy

Margarite

And they will be beautiful,

Each in her own distinct way.

Like their namesakes,

Those girls will lift their faces to the sun,

And bask in the wonder of the world.

They’ll add glamour and color, interest, allure

Wherever they find themselves.

With utmost confidence,

Each will embrace her particular uniqueness,

Not covetous, not envious, of other’s attributes,

Sure in the fact that she has exactly what she needs

To Be

Perfect

Happy

Free

These days

Should you manage

To conjure ‘nough courage

To forbid what’s rightfully mine

You’d see

I’ve grown, matured

Overcome and endured

Blessed by love, education and time

So don’t make me brandish my weapons

Old foe

You will not survive

Solid

You stand

A stone lintel

Shouldering

The weight of those on either side

Dutifully

You commit to task

Developing patina

Weathering beautifully

Into an architectural wonder

Solid

You

Stand

Big Bold Woman!
